Outstanding Rare French 19th Century Figural Dore Ormolu and White Marble Ball Clock with Striking Balance Escapement Movement, in Superb Condition. Spectacular ornate French ball clock depicting two cherubs surmounting a ball, in superb condition. Original gilding of ormolu pieces is incredibly bright and shiny, with very few minor places of tarnish.
White marble is superb - clean with sharp corners. The striking movement is signed (maybe by Eugene Farcot, although I have not seen Farcot use this type of a mark before) and is marked "8 RUBIS". The movement is clean, strikes perfectly but does not stay running - will run for a few minutes to an hour, then stops. I think that the hairspring needs replacing. All the pivots of the balance escapement are intact.
Rear door screws in and some paint on it has rubbed off. Bell was removed to take a better picture of the movement, but is included with the clock (I will include a key, as well).
Pictures speak for themselves, but do let me know if you have any additional questions. The clock measures 13.5 (34 cm) high and is surprisingly heavy for its size.
