Fine antique french 3/4 violin made circa 1840 for restoration. Beautiful antique french 3/4 violin made in Mirecourt circa 1840. This violin is a jewel, and you really won't find such a quality instrument often, especially in that size. The top is made of two pieces of spruce and shows regular and very thin grain lines. The back is made of a fantastic single piece of highly flamed maple, the dancing curl descending from the left to the right. The ribs, neck and head are of the same wood, and original to the instrument. The varnish is of a superb red-brown color on a golden ground. The work is excellent, with delicate f holes, fine purfling work, very nice outline and beautiful head. The violin is proposed for restoration. It wasn't played for a long time, still retains its original short fingerboard, shows major ungluings of the neck and the bottom block (with a rib deformation that needs to be corrected).
There is also a crack at the lower right of the back, and some old nailing attempts on the button. There are no other cracks, nothing to sound post or bass bar.Once properly restored, this violin will be a real little wonder of the early 19th century french school!
