I just love these wonderful 1700s to 1800s woven French Aubusson or Gobelin tapestry panels made over into throw pillows. You can see I have a lot of them at home (final image, including ones as old as 1600s) and here's one wonderful matching pair, quite large, we found recently at an antiques market here in California. Hand made for a posh LA estate owner, this wonderful matching pair been beautifully crafted and the old panels have typical flaws but it's been professionally backed and made stable for use in this manner.I've made a lot of my own. These 2 (PAIR), like my own, are completed with lush French passimenterie (French fringe, hand or machine made). A beautiful result as I'm sure you'll agree. Our photos show them well. Fine old chair seat or back panels from c.
1700s-early 1800s made over into a clean fresh decorative pair of accent pillows, not likely ones you're going to toss about or slouch into very much. Threads are as you see them, backed by a panel to hold them all beautifully stable in display. Backing is a cotton/silk mix velvet, I think.
The fabric used on the front panel to contain the old tapestry is a fabulous compliment of colors and is also a woven fabric. Just lovely, and large at a full 16 square.
Fill feels to me like a fine quality down and feather pillow. I'm not taking it apart to confirm. Slightly heavier than my down-filled ones, but has that same feel and movability since you'll want to crease that top, right?
We have a complimenting larger 23.5 one with Cupid or Putti figure, also being listed today. You see them in the final and next to final images. Ask if you aren't easily able to locate it.
We got a good deal and we'll pass it along. Regrettably, I can't keep every beautiful thing, can I. Good to very good condition throughout, and the bulk of this one is vintage, with only that center front panel being antique tapestry. And the tapestry is 1700s to earliest 1800s, French, either Aubusson or Gobelin. It shows the typical looseness of thread leaving some of the weaving without the wove.
That entire panel is backed, however, with a panel of fine old linen that adheres to it and makes it a stable enough panel for a throw pillow. Such a fabulous panel, too, with the figure of the sweet pair of children, one with dog or perhaps a sheep & horn, and one with girl seated in the flowers. Fabulous colors, lovely old work in wool and silk yarns, threads. The fringe is lush, a lovely compliment. No stains, no odors, nothing to prevent your complete enjoyment. We're easy to deal with.
