Large and Heavy French 19th Century Bronze Patina and Sienna Marble Clock with a Rare Type of Striking Movement, in Excellent Fully Working Condition. Superb clock with a very rare type of striking movement (see paragraph below for the pros). Bronze casting is superb, highly detailed, with nice dark brown patina. Dial is also superb, ornate, silvered and gilded, covered by a beveled glass bezel (which is not hinged as usual, it is removed by a twist).
The movement could use some cleaning, but it is not bad and is fully functional. The rear door has glass, too. There are a few tiny, barely noticeable chips to the marble as one would expect on a clock this old. Middle ornament was professionally restored.Other than this, the clock is superb. Pendulum and bell were removed to take a better picture of the movement. I will include a key. Pictures speak for themselves, but do let me know if you have any additional questions. It is a rack strike, but designed without a gathering pallet. Instead, the rack hook is geared to the strike train via a lever, it does the gathering of the rack by pushing it up, one tooth at a time. The snail is behind the hour wheel, rather than in front of it. See one before last photo. Also, the suspension's adjust is unusual, see the last photo. The last photo shows both side-by-side.
